Bugs pt. 2
Last Saturday I decided to fumigate the kitchen since that's where I kept finding those horrible bugs. Look what I found behind the kitchen door! It was so gross! But now...all gone! I've seen hardly any of the bugs since. I did a really thorough clean including all the cupboards. Yay! no more bugs!
I still have spiders in my room though :(

Bugs
I'm not very happy. The past few days I've been seeing these little brown/black bugs around the house. They like little beatles that fly and probably bite. I've seen them on the walls, which is fine, but I got the cornflour out the other day and they were in there! Grossssssss! I had to throw the whole box away. And then the other night I lifted up my duvet and they were in my bed. So now all week I've been really paranoid. I don't know how many I've had to pick up with tissues from my room. My bedroom is not for bugs.
But that's not it. I've only seen one spider in the house until now- and that was on a duvet that had been sat in the living room for quite a few weeks. And now I've seen 4! All in my bedroom! Small, flat, can-get-anywhere-types. And if they were on my ceiling I could cope. 2 of them were. 1 was on the wall right behind the bedhead. The other was under the lip of the windowsill right next to my bed. It wasn't there the other day because I looked! (I don't know why...maybe checking for the beatles) So now I'm sleeping on the sofa. Checking every corner of the flat for spiders.
And right now I've just spotted a spider spinning it's web around one of the bugs. :( Help me.

Cinderella
Guess who went to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Ice ball at the Grand Hyatt hotel last night! Unfortunately it was not because I was asked by a fantastically wealthy man...no, it was because I volunteered. I didn't realise that I would be having to guard a watch all evening, but it was still a great night. The watch was a Breitling Superocean watch, not that I'd heard of them before, and very expensive- they normally cost around $20-30'000 HKD. The starting price for it on the silent auction though was $6'000- a bargain! There was a lot of interest in it and the final price was $19'000. So the guy only really saved $2'000. While I was standing there I heard a woman say to her husband (drooling over the watch), "But daaahling, you already have a Breitland!" Obviously not that one haha.
Other prizes on the silent auction included a 2 night stay, for 2 people, at the Four Seasons hotel in Thailand (starting bid $7'000, normal price per night is $22'000 with a min. stay of 7 nights); a wooden handbag (!) with leather interior for $4'000 but no one bid on that...for some reason...; signed memorabilia from film stars, sports stars and everyone else. There were a lot of prizes going. If I had the money I would have bid on VIP tickets to the Cirque de Solei at the Macau, plus ferry tickets over, and one night's stay at the Venetian. Starting bids on that were $3'000. A bargain I think! I don't know how much it went for, but I think maybe $11'000.
After the auction finished at 11:30 we were allowed to go and dance. Well I don't know if we were but I dragged Lynette and Jo anyway hehe. They had a band from the Cavern, a bar in LKF, who were great! They sang the YMCA and once asian guy stood there looking really confused at all these westerners waving there arms around. I danced with him for a bit at the end and I thought I heard him say he was in the CIA haha.
I'm sure I haven't done this night justice- Fanny (a friend of Lynette's) organised it and it must have been fantastic to have been a guest. There was live entertainment, a silent and live auction, a raffle with amazing prizes, great food (the volunteer's food wasn't so good hmpf), and the decorations we just fantastic! All the pictures are on Flickr.

Tour Guide
Yesterday Anita, a very nice woman I met in Beijing (at the BICF Next church...will post about that soon), came to Hong Kong. She's staying just for 2 days and I offered to show her around. We went to H&M, where I came out with several items and Anita came out with none, had tapas for lunch in Soho and then went to Repulse Bay beach. Oh we went to Flow, this great second hand bookstore in Soho, before the beach too. After Repulse Bay we took the Star Ferry over to Tsim Sha Tsui. We saw the most ridiculous looking boat in the harbour! It's pink. With flashing lights. And there's just a really tacky design thing going on.
When we got to TST we went to the YMCA bookstore, and Anita bought quite a few books. It's a good job Anita bought an empty suitcase because her books must weigh a ton! We went to HMV too and again Anita bought sooo much. We had a really good time- I'm so glad Anita came down!

Videos
This first video is one of the men on the Sugar craft stand, at the carnival, trying to get the tennis balls into his hat!
This video is the professional clown they hired at the carnival. We had our own "Vine" clown too, Eric.
This is the acrobat. Here she's spinning things on her arms and legs, but before that she was squeezing herself into a tiny tube thing.
This guy is called the Masked Magician and his trick is magically changing his masks very quickly.
Lastly, is my favourite video- toboganing down from the Great Wall! It felt a lot faster than it looks on the video haha.
Enjoy!
